Right now (2020) it is important to support regional gastronomy. And here you can and should really do it. The staff is competent, friendly and ready for a little joke. The food is excellent and freshly prepared. The ambience is rustic and cozy and perfectly matches the flair of the old building. Either with a great view of Meissen or of the Meissen Cathedral and Albrechtsburg. Highly Recommended

Even though we showed up too early, we got a table straight away. As a precaution, one has been reserved for us both inside and outside - that's what I call thinking ahead. Despite a full house, our service was friendly and very quick. My pumpkin soup was incredibly tasty, so was my goulash (albeit a little too much for me with the bread) and the quark leg for dessert was tasty. My companion has seasoned meat and roast pork and these two dishes were also extremely delicious. The only thing that was even better than the food was the magnificent view over Meissen. What a great lunch in a unique location! We will be back definitely!

We were with 16 people on September 12th, 2020 in the cathedral cellar for dinner. Although nothing was actually free, Mr. Müller posted us in the taproom ... We could almost watch the cellars at work ... Hats off! Despite a full inn, we were served extremely friendly and competent! service on a high level! We felt very comfortable and our guests were extremely satisfied. The kitchen, the service, everything as you would want it to be much more often! ...

Very tasty food. A quaint atmosphere. The view is really great. Also recommended for larger groups.

Indisputably five stars. Spectacular terrace views add to terrific traditional — if not historical — food. Lots of really interesting dishes perfected over hundreds of years: würzfleisch was a great chicken gratin-style appetizer, the “warmes bratenbrot” with dark beer sauce was sensational, and the schnitzel was excellent. Reserve a terrace table in advance.

Overall, a humble experience. When I entered, my question to the waiter whether there were still two places available was answered with "Must see". Well, then I took a look and (unfortunately) found two places on the viewing terrace. The view from there over Meissen and Elbe is great. And we also had time to enjoy them, because in contrast to the drinks, which were at the place after two minutes (even if in the dirty glass), our dishes were only served after 60 minutes of waiting. After all, they were hot and hearty. My companion liked the potato soup. I was not entirely convinced of my sexton. Because the potato pancakes had combined with the cheese and the pan to form a hard unit that could only be separated from a knife and fork using a spatula. I have to admit that I didn't share any of my criticisms with the staff on site, so I can't say how dedicated they would have been to solving the problem. All in all, my prejudice has been confirmed that restaurants that score points for their location alone let things slip a bit in terms of culinary and service.

Insider tip !!! Even if at first glance it seems a bit more expensive compared to a conventional restaurant, everything is worth its price here. I have seldom experienced such a good kitchen, a big compliment to the cook and to the entire crew, who keep the ship perfectly upwind!

A great view, very friendly and attentive service! The food was great, both for the adults and for the kids. Vegetarians do not feel fed up either. Lots of love that you can taste. We'd love to come back!

Traditional Saxon dishes are served in a wonderful atmosphere. The staff is relaxed, quick and warm. Everyone can find something and wishes can be flexibly met here. We will be happy to come back.

As the menu says so nicely: "oldest restaurant Meißens-uhrig, Saxon, cozy ...". That is definitely true. Lovingly designed menu with some Saxon specialties. The view from the terraces is beautiful. The staff is lovely and very accommodating. A visit is always worthwhile.

I was only there for the beer, which I found to be the best in Meißen. The view from the terrace is amazing. Service was super friendly. Prices are ok for he location.

Fantastic traditional German restaurant. Best views over the old town, curated selection of local dishes and really friendly staff. My family and I tried a few dishes, all of them outstanding. Quite surprising for such a touristy location, smack on the cathedral square!

We were eating there today. I have to say I was very happy with the food. The waiter gave us the right choice for a wine and tried to serve the food quickly. The service was very good. The atmosphere in the room was very nice. Everything is nicely decorated. In the end we even got a membership card recommended. Would love to come back.

Came for the beer stayed for the food! Has my doubts but totally delivered

Discovered by accident when we explored the cathedral grounds. Not quite as spectacular from the outside but well equipped on the inside. Great murals and sayings. From the balcony of the restaurant you have a good view of the city of Meißen. The food is good but the prices are reasonable. Very good taste. Shower from the tap in different flavors.

I have been to many restaurants during my trip across Saxonia but this one was the best. The food, the location, the atmosphere, the service: all was remarkably good.

Best view on the city in the summer. Always the freshest beer in town and an excellent selection of other spirits including local wines. Delicious true serious German food. The dessert selection could use some improvement.

We went to this restaurant on Saturday for dinner without making any reservations. We came at around 5pm, and even though many tables had signs that they are reserved for 7pm, we were still seated at one of them. So if you're planning on going for dinner at a later time, it makes a perfect sense to make a reservation. The food was very tasty, but the service was a bit slow. The view from the terrace is spectacular so when the weather is nice, it's better to sit outside.
